Current Skincare Saviours

About my current skincare saviours

So for a while I simplified my skincare routine because my skin was really bad. I was taking off my makeup with wipes, cleansing with a Clean&Clear cleanser and just been using my Avène serum and moisturiser, all of which I was using for months and all was fine but my skin was never great, I stopped breaking out as much but I still had breakouts which never really went away.
I knew wipes were bad but I still used them anyway because I couldn't find a cleanser to take off my makeup that I liked that much. And after months of using it, I finally realised that the cleanser that I was using was a foaming one, it's quite funny because I used it for so long & I never realised it to be foaming. I was using wipes and foam on my already dry and sensitive skin, no wonder why it never cleared up.

It was time to change my skincare, which I hate because my skin breaks out easily and I've tried so many skincare products at all different price ranges, I already lost hope.
Anyway, I stumbled upon Caroline Hirons' blog and I instantly fell in love with her posts. I read through most of her cheat sheets and learned so much! She recommends using balm cleansers and I remembered that I used to love using my Bobbi Brown balm cleanser, I have no idea why I never tried a balm cleanser again. I stopped using toner ages ago because I could never find one that didn't break me out or felt like it did anything but I took her word for it and put toner on my shopping list too. She raves about Hydraluron too and it sounded like something I needed so that was also put on the list along with flannels, I never really liked muslin cloths anyway so that wasn't a hard decision.

So I went online and ordered a the Ren No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm and Ren Tonic Moisture Mist then I ventured out the next day to buy 7 flannels and the Hydraluron.
My new skincare challenge began, I started implementing the products one by one into my skincare routine and spent a bit more time in the mornings and evenings on my skin. I also started drinking more water. There have been noticeable changes, my skin is SO MUCH better now, the bumps on my forehead and nose have cleared up. I still have some but I'm guessing that it's because of my diet; I eat way too much sugar. Anyway I have been loving my new skincare routine which I have been using for nearly 3 weeks now and I thought I'd share it with you guys!

The products:

1. Ren No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm
I absolutely love this, it takes off all of my makeup and I don't need to double cleanse. It smells really good too! I squeeze out a 10p sized blob (in the mornings I use a 5p sized blob) and rub it between my fingers before rubbing it into my dry face. I then run my fingers under the tap then rub them over my face to emulsify the balm.
Ren No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm

Next I use a hot flannel to remove my makeup, I rinse the flannel and repeat this step about three times until my face is clean. Oh and it says you can use this to remove eye makeup but I wouldn't recommend it, I tried it and it stings! I always use a separate cleanser for my eye makeup because I use waterproof mascara and no face cleanser ever manages to take everything off.

2. Ren Tonic Moisture Mist
I love that this is a spray and that it can also be used over makeup. I spray it twice over my face after cleansing and pat it into my skin. This smells lovely which is a bonus! It's also lovely if you want to refresh your makeup during the day, the only thing I don't like about this product is the glass bottle. It's so heavy to carry around!

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Booster with the Purest Hyaluronic Acid - Hydration Serum - 30ml
This product is amazing, my skin definitely feels more hydrated since using this. I recommend this product to everyone! It's a clear gel and a little goes a long way.

I've talked about this on my blog before, I love this so I use this on top of the hydraluron serum too, this is my third or fourth bottle now. It feels really refreshing on the skin and it acts as my moisturiser because I haven't been using moisturiser in the mornings all over my face recently.

Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum, 1.01 fl. oz.

I've had this for a while now and I still haven't made up my mind about it, I love it under makeup because makeup applies so nicely on it but I've noticed that if I use it too regularly then it will dry out my skin and I would get little bumps. I just use this in the mornings on my t-zone so that my makeup applies nicely.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment Cream with Benzoyl Peroxide, Oil-Free, 1.35 Fl. Oz.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment Cream with Benzoyl Peroxide, Oil-Free, 1.35 Fl. Oz.

6. Avène Light Hydrating Cream
I bought this to try when I ran out of my Avène rich compensating cream, I didn't like the SPF version so I thought that I'd try this one. It's okay, nothing amazing, I much prefer my rich compensating cream especially because I find that makeup doesn't sit that well on top of this which is why I don't moisturise in the morning and use the Effaclar Duo on my t-zone instead. Once I get another jar of the rich compensating cream I will swap this over for that.

The Routine:

Morning - Cleanse w/ 1 using hot flannel > Tone with 2 > Serum 3 > Serum 4 > 5 on T-zone
Night - Cleanse w/ 1 using hot flannel > Tone with 2 > Serum 3 > Serum 4 > Moisturise with 6

I definitely recommend using hot flannels, a fresh one everyday (recommended by Caroline Hirons). I never ever used to just tissue off, I find that gross and even when I used wipes I would always cleanse again with a cleanser and water. If I was using an oil or milk cleanser I would always wash my face with water under a tap. Hot flannels are amazing - I love seeing my makeup on the flannel so that I know it's coming off properly. I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier seeing as I've used a flannel since I was little to wash my face everyday, just never thought of using it with a cleanser to take off makeup? So now I have 7 white flannels which I rotate around, 1 flannel a day and I have my regular flannel which I use in the shower or whatever. I chuck the white ones in the laundry basket after each use so they go in the washing machine.

There is also one more product I want to use in my skincare routine and that is an exfoliating toner. I know exfoliating is important but I've never done well with exfoliating, it always breaks out my skin! But the idea of an exfoliating toner sounds good - no beads, no salt, no bits, just liquid! I've been looking for one that doesn't sound too harsh and the Pixi Glow Tonic sounds suitable for my skin so I want to try that too.
Also I've been drinking more water, I used to only drink a glass a day, some days not even that. But now I've been trying to drink at least 4 glasses and I think that has helped my skin too, I definitely feel better anyway.

Sorry this is a super long post, but hopefully you've found this interesting or helpful. Feel free to ask me any questions about the products or if you want to know where I bought them from & definitely check out Caroline Hirons' blog if you haven't already.

Have a lovely day!

Finding Natural Turquoise Jewelry Online

925 Sterling Silver Ring with Genuine Turquoise and Semiprecious Gemstones Size 5 to 12

Turquoise is a soft, opaque gemstone. In the United states, it is most often found in the Southwest, and is commonly used in Native American jewelry. Because turquoise is so soft, it is often treated with chemical processes to make it harder, or otherwise "improve" it. Because of these practices, Jewelry that has not been treated, that is, natural turquoise jewelry - is more prized, and often more valuable.
The stores below carry a wide selection of natural turquoise. Some also carry the treated stones. It is wise to always ask through questions of the seller before buying any natural turquoise jewelry. Being listed below does not guarantee natural turquoise in every piece you'll find, so play it safe and question before you buy. This is especially true of the more expensive pieces which can sell for thousands of dollars.
Nevada Outback Gems: A nice selection of natural turquoise in rings, bracelets, earrings and more. A lot of interesting spider-webbed pieces to be found here. Prices are fairly reasonable, with most under $100. Sales are conducted via e-mail with payment via Paypal.
Southwest Silver Gallery: Here you will find a variety of Native American themed Turquoise Jewelry, Including necklaces bracelets, pendants, rings and even watches, It is evident that a great deal of pride is taken in the craftsmanship Prices range from under $100 to upwards of $2500. Purchases can be made online though the website or over the phone
Silver Sun: Another group of Native American artisans specializing in Natural Turquoise Jewelry, Silver Sun gives you a unique option to pick your stone from a mine before it is crafted into jewelry. A great deal of attention is given to educating the buyer on the quality of stones from each mine. Prices Range between $100 and $3000. Purchases can be made from their website using any major credit card.
Twin Rocks Trading Post: Has a wide selection of Natural Turquoise Jewelry hand crafted by Native American Artists This site offers one of a kind pieces with quality and beauty at affordable prices. Purchases can also be made directly though the website.

Applying Makeup when You Can't See Well

30 Piece Brand New & Sealed Hard Candy' Cosmetics Makeup Excellent Assorted Mixed Lot
Applying makeup is one of the joys of my life. Unless it is a beach day or I feel unusually lazy, I like trying new colors and shades of makeup. I've had perfect vision all my life until I reached 40. At this fabulous age, I began to notice a few changes--one was my changing eyesight. After several botched makeup applications, I swore off eyeshadow vowing to stick with eyeliner and mascara for a "simpler look." That did not work so well either and I missed playing with my favorite eyeshadow brands likeMAC and Mary Kay.
When you can't see well, applying makeup is kind of hit and miss. You may get your eyeshadow on the eyelid and you may get your eyeliner in a perfectly straight line but after you put on your glasses-oh no! As a new hot girl with glasses I learned a few things about applying makeup with poor eyesight. Some of them are no-brainers but they felt like revelation when I first figured them out. Here's to you smart, sassy glass wearing gals! Try these tips for flattering makeup applications that stay in the proverbial lines.

Magnified Me
Yes, wonder of wonders, the magnifying glass has become my best friend. I upgraded my vanity table mirror. Besides the regular mirror that matches my wicker vanity set, I sprung for a large magnification mirror. This freestanding mirror stands easily on the tabletop and even has additional lighting to help me see. Be warned. You'll see everything now, including facial hair and tiny wrinkles.

Bright Light
Natural light is best so if possible, move your makeup nook closer to an outdoor window. When this isn't possible double the wattage on your light bulbs or invest in new lighting. Track lighting and lamps are good for directing light on a specific area.

Better Tools
Someone once said, "To do the best job you need the right tools." This old adage is true for this situation too. When you can't rely on your eyes you have to rely on your tools. Upgrade your makeup tools to get a better application.
Pick a sculptured blush brush that is designed with your cheekbones in mind. For mineral powder foundation, use a flat kabuki brush. Always select mascaras that are easy to handle with fine, full brushes. When seeing is a problem, stick with eyeshadow tools that have short handles for better control.

Over Foundation Concealer
With less than perfect eyesight, you'll make plenty of mistakes, even with practice. Keep an over-foundation concealer on your makeup table or in your purse for quick corrections. Unlike the concealer that goes under foundation, this kind blends in smoothly to makeup without changing the foundation color.
Check around the eyes and lips especially for eyeshadow and lipstick faux pas. I recommend using concealer pens to get the most precise accurately placed coverage. I usually give myself a quick once over in my car before I even head out of the driveway. There I get tons of good light and can see problems quickly.
If you love makeup but have some difficulty seeing you don't need to give up your cosmetics. Make some of the suggested changes and give yourself a little more time for application. Wearing glasses is not the end of the world. In fact, I love the way my glasses make me look. “Especially after I put them on!”, also said Monica Bullock.

I Do NOT Like My Engagement Ring!

1.6 Carat Designer Four Prong Round Diamond Engagement Ring with a 0.75 Carat I-J VS1-VS2 Center

If you ask just about any female above the age of 13 what kind of wedding ring she likes, she will most likely give you some spill about metal colors or size or cut or shape. It is something we think about, it's in our blood! And when you dream about that ring for years (and years) it could be extremely devastating to get something that is completely different that you hate. I know that all the guys reading this are probably thinking how ungrateful that sounds and that it is not about the engagement ring, it is about the meaning behind it and what it symbolizes. True. But regardless of how stupid you think it may be, you want her to love her ring as much as she loves you. She is after all going to wear it everyday for the rest of her life, right?! So, with that in mind....guys, try not the be offended and sensitive about changing the ring, you want her to be happy.

If you are a female finding yourself in this situation, my best advise to you is to simply be honest with your man. Tell him you love him and you want to be his wife, but that you have a certain kind of wedding ring in mind and ask if he would mind an exchange. If you fear he might be angry or upset then make a comment about someone you know exchanging their engagement ring to see what he says and how he reacts. Upset or not, it comes down to you wearing a ring you hate, learning to love it anyways, or sticking your neck out there in an effort to be happy with what you get. I suppose it is all a matter of what you can live with.

3.65 Carat t.w 14K White Gold Exquisite Prong Set Bageutte And Round Diamond Engagement Ring w/ a 1.5 Carat Princess Cut Purple Tanzanite Heirloom Quality

I'm sure that someone, somewhere will have stories about how such an exchange might be bad luck or wrong, but that is going to be a matter of opinion. So, I would say if the two of you feel ok with the exchange then go for it. If you are truly concerned, then ask someone you look up to (a parental figure) or your minister. They will be able to tell you how your family or your religion might feel about it.

As for the actual exchange at the store, it will depend on the store's refund and exchange policies. They will definitely want all the original paperwork, receipt, etc and could possibly have a very short period of time allowed for exchanges after the initial purchase. If your wedding ring has been engraved, customized in some way or if it was a closeout or discontinued design then you may be out of luck. Your best bet is to simply take the engagement ring back to the same store where it was purchased along with all the paperwork and ask them what your options are as soon as possible.

 Engagement Ring Milgrain

If a return is impossible for some reason, there are still options. You could consider having the ring reset or restyled into something you do like or try selling it and use the money to buy another one. All that really matters in the end is that you and he are happy together and that both of you can live with your decision.....and the wedding ring!

How to Remove Makeup and Blemishes in Photographs

If your photographs are looking less than the best, use a photo editing software to jazz them up.

Press Command-A (PC: Ctrl-A) to select the entire image. Click the Edit menu and choose De ne Pattern. Click OK to accept the lename as the name of the pattern. Look at the texture in the shadow area of her cheek; it still doesn't look as soft as it should. With that in mind, press Command-Option-Z (PC: Ctrl-Alt-Z) twice to undo the Dust & Scratches filter.
Now we'll create a pattern for the shadow area. Once again, open the Dust & Scratches lter. This time click the lter's cursor box to the left of her nose.
Start with a higher pixel radius (we used 10). Slowly lower the Threshold number until this area of skin in the shadow smoothes out, around 14. Ignore the e ect on any pixels in the highlights. Click OK.

Once again, select the entire image by pressing Command-A (PC: Ctrl-A), then choose Edit>De ne Pattern. It's ne to let this pattern have the same name as the rst. Remember that the rst pattern is for the lighter areas of skin while the second one is used in the shadows. Finally, press Command-Option-Z (PC: Ctrl-Alt-Z) to undo Dust & Scratches.
Choose the Healing Brush tool from the Toolbox. Change the Source in the Options Bar from Sampled to Pattern. From the Pattern menu, click the rst thumbnail of Catherine to select the one for smoothing the texture in the lighter portions of her skin.
Click the Aligned checkbox to turn it on.

Heal the pattern over her forehead and then work the turquoise eye shadow using a 70-pixel brush; use the Right Bracket key (]) to increase brush diameter as needed. Brush over the triangle of highlight on her right cheek. Heal over any objectionable texture on her left cheek, nose, and forehead.
Choose the second pattern from the menu and work the shadow areas of her right cheek on both sides of the strands of hair. Use a smaller, 20-pixel brush, being careful to leave a bu er area of untouched texture next to her hair; use the Left Bracket key ([) to decrease brush diameter as needed. If the Healing Brush gets too close to the hair, the e ect will bleed into the hair resulting in a very unnatural look. Work on the shadow side of her nose as well.

Click the Eye icon on the Smoother Skin layer to check the progress of the effect. Thanks to April Santos for these great informations!

Is Jewelry Making Your Passion?

How to Include Your Kids in Your Hobbies

With three girls in my house, we've had Nana's help in creating an interest in jewelry making. However, there are other ways to get kids interested in jewelry making. The first is to pick an outlet that interests them. Another is to make jewelry for others. Lastly, try doing jewelry making in a group. Still, there is more to it than this.
Moonlight Art Supply 12-Piece Jewelry Making Tool Kit and 34-Inch Flocked Bead Board
Pick an Outlet that Interests You
Much like clothes, the jewelry you wear is an extension of your personality. The same applies for making jewelry to be given as a gift. It should be a reflection of the recipient's personality. Jewelry making is a great way to show your appreciation for a person, as well as show how well you really know them.
Make a Gift of Jewelry for Others.
What better way to get your kid interested than to make a gift for a friend. While making jewelry for your self can be fun, making jewelry for others is always more fun. Not only are you able to give someone a gift, but you are also able to show off your hard work and creativity.

Free Jewelry Patterns - Kindle

To do so, you can explore the different types of jewelry. There are many types of jewelry that fit people of all ages. For younger children, try the pop beads that allow you to piece together multiple beads of various colors. They can make them big or small. For children in middle school, the art of friendship bracelets will always be popular. Older kids will enjoy working with beads and gems.
Within each age group, each child will have a different style of jewelry making that they prefer. Some prefer beads. Others prefer to make pins out of felt or bracelets out of clay. Whatever their preference, let them explore that area. You will be surprised at what they create.

Make Jewelry with a Group of Friends
Still, if you are unable to get a kid interested in jewelry making, you can always put together a group of his or her friends. Jewelry making is definitely a group activity. Not only does your kid get to be with their friends, but they will also get some great ideas.
So, go ahead, throw a jewelry making party for your kid. Display all types of jewelry so that the possibilities are endless. Invite them to put all the jewelry together and each pick out a different one as a gift. Everyone will create beautiful items and have a great time!

How to Make Your Own Jewelry Christmas Tree

Here's what you'll need:
Styrofoam cone. The size of the cone will depend on how many jewelry findings you have to decorate with.
Christmas wrapping paper foil in red, green, gold, silver or any other color you'd like. You can even use kitchen aluminum foil.
Jewelry findings (broken pieces, single earrings, etc.) buttons, beads, pottery shards. Use your imagination. If you do choose jewelry, it's always best to try to use pieces of broken jewelry. I advise not deliberately using jewelry that is still in good condition, even if you think it's junk.

Remember, today's junk is tomorrow's treasure.
Some of the oddest things tend to creep up in value while we're not looking. You can also use a straight pin to put some of the pieces on. Then they'll be easy to take off if you realize they have more value on the market than on the tree.
Hot glue gun. Don't forget the glue!
*Optional addition #1 - Tiny Christmas tree lights
**Optional addition #2 - Beaded garland

And here's how to do it:
1. Wrap the cone with foil paper. Overlap the ends and glue together. Do not use hot glue directly on the Styrofoam. It will melt and melted Styrofoam is definitely not a desired result here.
2. Putting the glue directly on the jewelry pieces, start placing your findings on the foil covered cone. Use larger pieces first, then fill in the spaces with smaller findings. Just put them on here, there and everywhere. Don't stress on placement. It will look good no matter what you do.
3. Decide what you'd like to use for a topper. This tree is using a little, vintage angel.
*There are two ways to use a string of lights. You can put them under the foil, using florist pins, or even hairpins, to hold the string in place. When you wrap the cone in the foil, you need to make little slits where each light is, then press the foil down around the bulb. This is the hardest way to make it look "right", so you might try the next method. Put the lights on top of the foil, either hold the string in place with the florist pins or glue it down, then simply glue your findings on top of the light string. It is harder to cover the light strings this way.
**If you choose to use beaded garland, add it before adding the findings, then proceed to step 2.
Find a pretty silver tray, mirror, doily, plate or saucer for a base or maybe wind beaded or tinsel garland around the bottom and you're done! Now wasn't that easy?
Here you can find anothere one!
